The best coping skill I have is to constantly remind myself that, yes, I am the professional, I am the one stepping
back and looking in and seeing it all so clearly, but it’s not about me.
It’s about them.
I don’t mean “it’s about them” in a teenaged way, saying “oh yeah, like, it’s always about you.”
It’s more saying, “this is their town, and they have a right to do what they feel is in the best interests of the town.” I am here to help them make their decision by giving them my advice, my research – but if they go 180 degrees from what I advised, that’s their call.
It makes it easier to go home in peace.
